History teachers Linda Chandler and Megan Valenti spent 12 days in China this summer,

Starting in Beijing, they visited sites such as the Temple of Heaven, Tienamen Square, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China. From there, they flew to Xi'an and visited the Terra-Cotta soldiers.

"We ended our trip in Shanghai," says Valenti, "where we were greeted by Taft students Jason Zhao, Steven Wang, and Esperanza Li. We took a day trip to Hangzhou with Jason and Esperanza, and visited sites such as the Bund, People's Park and Dongtai Road. It was a lovely trip and both Linda and Megan were fortunate enough to be given such a wonderful opportunity."

Both have taught about China the past two years in the 10th grade Historical Civilizations of the Modern World Course. Their trip was made possible through the Sheppard Family Grant and Palamar Fellowships.
